There is no good news on the fuel front. Hurry up and look for the right solution, prices are about to triple.

For some years now the situation on the energy front has been becoming increasingly difficult, especially when it comes to automotive. International tensions and war have in fact led to a situation in which the price of fuel has increased dramatically.

Today, filling up your car or scooter costs a fortune and all of this makes buying and using a car less and less sustainable. Furthermore, the decision of the EU Commission to encourage the use of electric cars by 2035 it doesn’t seem to make things easier for citizens.

The energy crisis and the ecological transition towards electric seem to accelerate the prices of fuel such as petrol and diesel. Although it is already very difficult, the car refueling situation could even get worse. In fact, it is expected that i prices can triple very soon.

Less money from excise taxes

According to the Unem Study Center, National Energy Union for Mobility, in less than six years there could be around 5 million tons less of liquid fuels. Instead, the demand for electricity could directly grow exponentially, due to the presence of around 4 million cars powered only by batteries.

A worrying fact, both for citizens and for the State. The lower demand for fuel would produce a real hole in terms of excise duties: approximately 3.8 billion euros less by 2030. The missing resources could increase to 9 billion in 2040. Not good news for state budgets.

Prices tripled

But there is no good news for citizens and motorists either. According to Gianni Murano, president of Unem, the energy price situation could soon worsen. “If today, to travel 100 kilometers with an electric car costs between 5 and 6.5 euros – states Murano – by 2030 this expense could quadruple“.

The estimate comes from the fact that the drop in tax revenue will have to be proportionate to approximately 4.1 GWh of electricity consumption related to transport. This means that there could be an increase of around 0.92 euros/kWh. Therefore, the cost of a top-up could soon triple, up to 1.27 euros/kWh.
