PISTOIA

The absolute novelty, for the people of Pistoia as well as for the whole of Italy, of the elections taking place on Saturday afternoon, from 3pm to 11pm, was absorbed considering that it coincided with the first real summer weekend and many people escaped from the heat of the plain to head towards the seas or mountains.

In the end, in the first eight hours of voting for the European and local elections (in 11 out of 20 municipalities in the province), the turnout was 17.02%.

Today will be the decisive day: the polls will open at dawn, i.e. at 7 am, to close at 11 pm and, immediately afterwards, counting operations will begin exclusively for the European elections. We remind you that, on 26 May 2019, in the province of Pistoia the turnout was 62.51%: compared to then, there will be more people with the right to vote given that we go from 233,378 five years ago to 235,105 today: it remains to be seen whether this trend towards a plus sign will also be found in the percentage of those present.

In order to exercise the right/duty to express one’s preferences at the ballot box, one must show up at one’s local polling station with an identification document (identity card or driving license) and a card where the polling station president will indicate the voter’s presence: for those who have lost the latter, or have simply completed it, the electoral offices in the various municipalities will make extraordinary openings for all those who do not have one.

The province of Pistoia is part of the central Italian constituency and, overall, Italy will send 76 members to the European Parliament, through the results obtained and thanks to the proportional distribution of seats.

A very different matter, however, as regards the administrative offices: in this case, it is the majority of the municipalities in the province that go to the vote (11 out of 20) and, in this case, Abetone Cutigliano, Agliana, Buggiano, Chiesina Uzzanese, Lamporecchio, Monsummano, Montecatini, Massa and Cozzile, Montale, Pieve a Nievole and Sambuca. Given that the European elections have priority, as far as the election of the various mayors and councilors is concerned, the counting of ballots will only start from 3pm tomorrow. In territories under 15 thousand inhabitants, the competition will reward the mayoral candidate who obtains the majority of votes, while in all the other larger ones one will become first citizen only with 50%+1 of the votes, otherwise in two weeks there will be a run-off which, in this case, it would only concern Agliana, Monsummano and Montecatini.
