The Campi Flegrei do not stop shaking. Several strong earthquakes occurred in the early afternoon of today, Tuesday 2 July. The earthquakes were clearly felt by the population of the Phlegraean areas and in several areas of Naples.
According to what is reported l’Ingvthe National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, a seismic swarm is currently underway in the Campi Flegrei area. According to the first data released, 4 shocks of magnitude 2.9, 2.7, 2.8 and 2.5 were recorded respectively at 15:10 (the first two earthquakes), at 15:13 and at 15:14. The shallow depth, about 3 km, meant that the shocks were clearly felt by the population. At the moment, no damage or injuries have been reported.
Reports of the earthquake immediately started appearing on social media. Several messages were posted in the Facebook group “Quelli del zona rossa dei Campi Flegrei”. On X, formerly Twitter, a user wrote: “Here we go again. strong #earthquakes #Campi Flegrei”.
Rosarywho lives in Bagnoli, interviewed by telephone by ilGiornale, said: “I think there were four tremors. The first was the strongest. Everything was shaking. I saw someone running in the street while other people were screaming in fear.” In recent days, exercises had been held in the Campi Flegrei. But few people participated.
