A day of test drives, spent in a place that represents a true piece of Italian automotive history. We were invited by Alfa Romeo at the official preview of the Junior Electric Fastthe top-of-the-range, zero-emission version of the new compact sports car from Biscione.

An exclusive event, since this variant of the small Alfa Romeo crossover SUV is not yet officially approved, which took place on the curves and straights of the Balocco Experimental Center. It is a complex of 27 tracks made specifically for testing vehicles in any road condition.

Inaugurated in 1962, the centre of Balocco is to Alfa Romeo as the Fiorano circuit is to Ferrari: in fact, some of the most iconic cars produced by Biscione were born inside it, such as the 33 Roadthe Giulia GTl’Alfasud and virtually all of his cars Formula 1.

And it is precisely inside this magical place that we had the opportunity to personally try out the Junior Elettrica Veloce, a important step in the history of the Milanese brand.

This compact SUV represents the most powerful and exclusive version of the first full-electric car produced by Alfa Romeo.

Junior in size…

From the first glance the Junior Elettrica Veloce appears to be acar definitely suitable for the city. Thanks to a length just over 4.0 mthis compact sports car fits perfectly into the segment B. Small volumes that allow you to turning circle of just 10 mideal for navigating the narrowest streets and traffic of the busiest city centres.

In terms of design, the Elettrica Veloce maintains the same sharp and angular lines of the other versions. Shapes characterised by a front with theiconic tribolo grilleAlfa’s trademark, and framed by a Full-LED headlight body developed on two levels.

A series of details in step with the times, which wink at the younger automotive audienceand which continue in the rear characterised by the particular “truncated tail” , inspired by an iconic model of the brand, the 1963 Giulia TZ, which optimises the car’s aerodynamics by improving the separation of the outgoing air flows.

Four people take care of completing everything. 18″ alloy wheels (17″ on hybrid versions) that recall the Quadrifoglio, the iconic symbol that distinguishes the sports cars produced by Alfa Romeo.

…but not inside

Despite fully belonging to the compact B-segment, the Alfa Romeo Junior guarantees aoptimal interior habitability among cars in its category. This car in fact offers five seats which can easily accommodate four people, even corpulent ones. If a fifth passenger were to decide to climb aboard, they would have to squeeze in a bit, which is normal for a car of this size.

Although it is a little too “plasticky” in some places, the passenger compartment of this car is largely covered in Alcantara leatherwhich covers the Seabelt branded seatsand some parts of the dashboard and of dashboard. Pleasant to the touch even the steering wheelnot too big, which guarantees a good grip when you decide to throw the car into corners at high speeds.

Excellent space dedicated to rear trunkwho with his 400 liters it is one of the most capacious of the entire category to which the Junior belongs.

The new electric face of Alfa Romeo

The sportiest version of the first electric car from Alfa Romeo is equipped with a propulsore full-electric Hybrid Synchronous Motor able to deliver 207 kWwhich translate into 280 cv that move a car that is all in all light for an EV, of 1.590 kg.

Adequate power for a car of this size, which guarantees it a0-100 km/h acceleration of 5.9 seconds it’s a full speed limited to over 200 km/h.

The HSM engine is supported by a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery compact and light, which in addition to having a positive effect on the weight of the car, guarantees arange of 410 km in WLTP cycle. It is also capable of recharge from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes at 100 kW DC fast charging stations.

How much does the Junior Electric Veloce cost?

The Elettrica veloce, the (for now) top of the range version of the Alfa Romeo Junior, will have a price that will start and 48.500 €exactly €9,000 more than the standard BEV variant.

According to Alfa Romeo, the orders for this model they will open by the end of 2024with the first units arriving in the first quarter of next year.
