A medal, a silver one, but it was a very heavy medal on the part of Mattia Furlani in the long jump at the European Championships in Rome. Also and above all because it was an announced and declared medal and the nineteen-year-old Italian champion wanted to immediately put the exclamation point in the final with an impressive first jump, which immediately re-established the dynamics and balance on the platform: 8.38, new absolute junior world championship. Second only to the Greek Tentoglou, uncatchable with 8.65 but ahead of the Swiss Ehammer who stops at 8.31.
Mattia Furlani did not disappoint expectations, exalting Rome and an Olimpico that was asking for an important match and which arrived without disappointing anyone. In the long jump final, the nineteen year old amazed once again, with a first jump that had everyone lining up right from the start, improving his personal best but above all conquering yet another junior world record. The “space” measurement of 8.38, two centimeters better than his distance, which earned him an immediate medal jump.

During the final, he invited the spectators to cheer, exalting them and encouraging them to cheer and support him in the jumps. The best match of my life, the final was one of the best ever of a European Championship. I made a few too many mistakes on the technical front but with time and with desire I will certainly be able to do even better. I did the world record again and it’s always an impressive feeling. I am proud of all those who follow me and have followed me, even the fans. The only thing is to work and improve: this is just an important step to grow further. We are on the right track.
Italy? We are impressive, there is nothing to say. Everyone is focused, on the piece. Thus satisfaction and above all the most important successes certainly come.
