The countdown is over. The great electoral machine is ready to “turn on” at 3pm today, Saturday 8 June 2024, to guarantee the smooth running of the elections.
Elections in Settimo: the day has arrived
Today and tomorrow the city of Settimo is called to the polls to renew the mayor and the city council, as well as voting for Regional and European elections. The time for rallies and the hunt for consensus to gain a seat in the local Parliament has expired: for the 255 aspiring councilors the moment of truth has arrived.
Election silence began at midnight on Friday 7 June (a rule that prohibits any form of propaganda in the hours before the vote, ed.). From 3pm today, 8 June, however, polling stations will be open until 11pm. Voting will continue on Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm.
The sections
There are 45 total sections in which it will be possible to vote, located in some schools in the area. Voting takes place at the Calvino school in viale Piave 21, at the Nicoli school in Corso Agnelli 13, at the Gramsci school in via Allende 1, at the Allaninocosta day center in the Olimpia village, at the Matteotti school in via Cascina Nuova 32 and finally at the Gobetti school in via Milano 4.
A president is assigned to each polling station, while there will be 182 scrutineers in total.
The population at the polls
The electoral body varies depending on the electoral consultations. Out of a population of almost 46,000 inhabitants, as far as municipal elections are concerned, those with voting rights are 38,310 citizens with a slight female predominance. In fact, going into the details of the numbers, 18,351 men and 19,959 women will be able to vote. 169 new adults will be called to the polls and, having turned 18, they will have the opportunity for the very first time to inaugurate their ballot paper and exercise their right to vote.
The task force
During the weekend, to avoid disturbances at the polling stations, there will be constant monitoring of the area by law enforcement forces and volunteers from some local associations. In this regard, the Municipality’s electoral office announces that, with regards to the staff employed, as regards the police forces there will be «two people for each polling station (between carabinieri, state police and financial police) and approximately around twenty colleagues from the municipal police on duty to ensure the stock of ballots and the connection with the polling stations”. Furthermore, volunteers from the National Carabinieri Association will also be present.
Service for non-ambulant people
To guarantee everyone the right to vote, a transport and accompaniment service to polling stations has been established for non-ambulatory citizens. To request it, you need to call the Electoral Office in the Municipality on 011/8028237 until Sunday 9 June. Every additional detail is reported on the official homepage of the Municipality.
I strip it
It will be possible to follow the counting of the ballots from the Giovanni Ossola room, seat of the municipal council. The counting of votes for the European Parliament will begin on the evening of Sunday 9 June immediately after the conclusion of the voting operations and the verification of the number of voters.
The counting for the other consultations will begin, however, at 2 pm on Monday 10 June, giving priority to the counting of ballots for the regional elections and followed by that of the municipal ones.
Electoral office open for card collection
Please remember that to vote you need an identity document and an electoral certificate. Anyone who has run out of spaces on the certificate can request a duplicate from the electoral office (Piazza degli Alpini 1) during opening hours to the public. For latecomers, services will also be open during voting operations.
Please remember that to receive the new electoral certificate it is mandatory to show the previous card (the used one).
