The winning incipit

When Leo opened his eyes again, his feet were already in the lake. The terror came a few moments later, when he heard silence. The silence of the night, the silence of the campsite. The silence that whispered his name. Leo. It wasn’t the damp cold that had crept under his pajamas that woke him up. It hadn’t even been the cry of Samantha who, from her bungalow, had seen him walking among the trees. In an instant, however, Leo had disappeared into the fog and Samantha’s voice with him. It wasn’t the icy waters of the lake that woke him up, grabbing his feet and dragging him into the mud. It was that voice that woke him up. Leo. Before he knew where he was, the water was up to his waist. Before he could react and try to escape, the lake clung to his face. Before looking at the Moon for the last time, he heard his name spoken again. Leo. And the muffled echo remained in his ears, while his lungs filled with fresh water that dragged him to the bottom.
