Pavia, 6 June 2024 – “We want a ceasefire and an end to the illegal occupation of the Palestinian state to be reached as soon as possible”. THE Youth for Palestine that from May 17th they occupied the Volta courtyard of the University, this afternoon they held a demonstration under the rectorate. They organized it because, despite having immediately asked to have a discussion with the University governance, only the other day they were contacted via email.
Students ask for peace in the Middle East: the garrison under the rectorate of the University
“The rector Francesco Svelto – the students argued – with his words has shown that he agrees with the recognition of the Palestinian state. He would like there to be two states for two peoples which is infeasible. Furthermore, he hopes for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the construction of humanitarian corridors for teachers and students, and material and immaterial support for Palestinian university communities. We’re pleased, but they’re just words. Our solution is a Palestinian state in which there is peaceful coexistence and equal rights for all. We ask that the University of Pavia joins the academic boycott and interrupts institutional relations with Israel. We must contribute to the international pressure on the Israeli government and force it to make an immediate and definitive ceasefire.”
