The fire broke out yesterday morning around six. Very violent especially due to the type of material attacked by the flames. And despite the massive intervention of the firefighters, the damage caused by the flames to Alessandro Trabucco’s company in Civitaquana was extensive. It took many hours of work to get to grips with the fire which literally destroyed a shed used as a shelter for hay, which is used to feed the animals, and for other agricultural tools. The structure is located in the countryside, in a fairly isolated area of the Colle del Popolo district, so fortunately on the one hand it was easy to contain the fire from the initial stages, on the other no other structures were threatened. No people or animals were involved. However, two agricultural vehicles that were in the area were completely destroyed, while a larger tractor suffered less damage: they managed to get it away from the flames before the fire spread strongly.

The warehouse has a surface area of approximately four hundred square meters and has a masonry part, as well as a sheet metal roof. Instead, it is open on the sides. About three hundred round bales of hay were kept in the area which practically ended up in smoke. An overall very serious economic damage for a farm that produces quality cheeses. Multiple fire brigade teams took turns throughout the day with personnel coming from the Pescara headquarters and the Alanno detachment. The men worked with the help of five fire engines. In the late morning it seemed that the flames had been put out and the firefighters had started the operation to make the area safe and clean up, but immediately afterwards some fires started to resume activity and it was necessary to resume extinguishing operations.

THE HYPOTHESIS

In the late afternoon, the smoke rising from what remained of the shed was still visible from a distance: extinguishing the flame which continued to smolder small outbreaks was particularly challenging. The Carabinieri of Penne’s company were also on site, coordinated by Captain Alfio Rapisarda, who collected the very first elements available. The firefighters’ investigations will verify the origin of the fire and therefore the possible malicious nature of the fire. Which, based on initial evidence, doesn’t seem likely. However, the damage remains to be quantified and is certainly very significant, also because in addition to the goods that burned, the company now also has a large warehouse that is completely unusable. As well as with an abundant supply of hay to recover. The fire brigade’s report will shed light on the dynamics.
