The Legality Table for Liguria met in the afternoon at the “Cristoforo Colombo” Hall of the Liguria Region, as required by Regional Law 7/2012.

An opportunity to take stock of the situation on urban security and the fight against organized crime, in light of the regulatory changes introduced by Regional Law 8/2022 and Regional Law 2/2024, to collect input from participants useful for better directing urban policies. the regional administration – underlines the Councilor for Economic Development with responsibility for Security of the Liguria Region, Alessio Piana – Thanks to the changes introduced, not only have we structured a regional observatory with which we annually draw up a report dedicated to the fight against organized crime which monitors the phenomenon in the area, but we have structured a budget chapter with which we will allocate resources to accompany the municipalities in the recovery of assets confiscated from the mafias. Resources which for the year 2024 correspond to 600 thousand euros and which, by the end of the month, we will decline in a dedicated call”.

Today’s meeting took place in the name of the pro-activism of the participants, who brought to light the experiences and good practices already in place, as well as needs to be paid attention to. Between these – adds the councilor – what emerged was that of soliciting the political and technical table on the governance of the world of procurement, the possibility of providing training in the public sector in the field of prevention and combating organized crime and of activating legality education initiatives, which above all involve schools and the world of youth. Furthermore, issues such as that of minors committing crimes and increasingly widespread phenomena such as usury, counterfeiting and illegal trading in the commercial sector were highlighted, which we can expect to delve into in the next editions of the observatory’s regional reports.”.

Sonia Viale, deputy group leader of the League in the Liguria region and elected member of the Legality Table, also spoke on the topic: “Great participation and support from the entire productive and institutional world today at the Legality Roundtable of the Liguria Region convened by the competent councilor Alessio Piana. The most traditional topics related to legality were covered and also one very dear to me which concerns minors, a topic I know well having been deputy head of the juvenile justice department from 2002 to 2006 and having dealt with juvenile deviance in that role. The experience on the topic made me understand that what we must communicate to our children is that the State is there, not absent. Starting from the agenda approved unanimously by the regional council and from the case of a minor “detected” close to mafia-type associations in western Liguria, it is necessary to be vigilant because in these cases young people are attracted not by money but because they are looking for of values that cannot be found in other places. This must raise alarm bells. A proposal for a focus to work in synergy between ANCI and juvenile justice offices to propose a pact between schools and the world of work following the opinion of the Juvenile Court could also be important to submit to the competent ministry the need to strengthen the justice system minor. A complex work that could lead to an important result for our generations and our future“.
