In the month of May, while waiting for the incentives starting in June, the Italian car market slowed down again: the cars registered last month were 139,581, marking a -6.62% on the same month of 2023. Looking instead in the first five months of 2024, the Italian market grew by 3.4%, going from 702,423 to 726,311 registered vehicles. The drop in May does not cause concern among operators because it is all in all contained, given that spending on cars was postponed by many while waiting for the ecobonus.
Electric utilities down 18.3% in May
In May, looking at car registrations by power supply, those of “rechargeable” vehicles (pure electric and hybrid with plug) fell by 24.6% and represent 6.9% of the market for the month (in May 2023 they were 8, 6%); in the cumulative they drop by 22.5% and have a share of 6.2% (down by 2.1 percentage points compared to the cumulative of the first five months of 2023)”, explains Anfia. «Electric cars (BEV) have a share of 3.6% in the month and 3% in the cumulative; sales fell by 18.3% in May and were down by 18.7% cumulatively. But with the incentives there is already a boom for electric cars: funds have run out

Stellantis is still slowing down: -13.9% in May
According to data processed by Dataforce, Stellantis registered 42,334 cars last month, -13.9% on the same month of 2023. The market share fell from 32.9% to 30.3%. In the first five months of the year, the group led by Carlos Tavares registered 235,383 cars, -0.3% on the same period in 2023.
