He remains in prison Paolo Emilio Signorinithe former president of the Port Authority of Genoa arrested for corruption on May 7th as part of the investigation that led to the governor of Liguria being placed under house arrest Giovanni Toti. The judge for preliminary investigations Paola Faggioni rejected the request for mitigation of the precautionary measure presented by the lawyers Enrico and Mario Scopesi: negative opinion it also came from the Prosecutor’s Office, represented by prosecutors Federico Manotti and Luca Monteverde. According to the accusation, Signorini was bribed by the port entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli through a long series of gifts: 15 thousand euros in cash to pay for his daughter’s wedding, luxury stays with “extra services”, plenty of chips and money to play at the casino, a Chanel bag, a gold bracelet from Cartier and the promise of a job paid by three hundred thousand euros a year.

Like Toti, Signorini had made use of the guarantee during the interrogation right not to respond, then he asked to be heard by the prosecutors. He had admitted to the magistrates that he had received phone calls from Toti to speed up the renewal of the contract concession of the Bulk Terminalwhich Spinelli cared about, maintaining that it was a “normal” thing, as the practice had been blocked since 2019. The former president of the port had “recognised the substantial inappropriateness” of the acquaintance with the entrepreneur: “With hindsight I understood that it was not appropriate behavior, but all my work was done in the interests of the port and port operators,” he said during the interrogation.
