Pecco Bagnaia today found it difficult to find the right words to describe another incredible weekend that he and his Ducati built in the Italian GP at Mugello.
The statistics speak clearly: he is the King of the Tuscan circuit, because it may be true that this is the track where the Borgo Panigale manufacturer tests its jewels, but it is also true that in the second consecutive Ducati poker in Tuscany – with Enea Bastianini second ahead of Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez -, Bagnaia had the ace of hearts up his sleeve, the most prized one. There’s no point in beating around the bush: Pecco’s ability to read the races is impressive, today the distance from his direct opponent on the track and in the championship, Martin, has been studied down to the smallest detail, perfect tire and mental management that would exhaust anyone. “It’s incredible, it wasn’t easy starting from fifth place, but then at the start I chose the strategy of going on the outside and it worked.”

And at the end of the race, on his lap of honour, he found his fan club on the edge of the track at the Correntaio bend, where the Ducati grandstand had been set up for the occasion, which staged a fake rock concert with him with lots of of guitars and wigs that recalled the historic American band. As soon as all the bikes returned to the pits, Mugello opened the gates to allow everyone to rush to the podium. 156,676 spectators over the entire weekend, important numbers that bring to mind those with Valentino Rossi on the track. So everyone celebrates and dances with the DJ set. Because it’s really true: you can’t sleep at Mugello.
