There are just two months left until the Paris Olympics and Italy’s rowing team is proving to be energetic and competitive. Just look at the results of the World Cup race which took place over the weekend in Lucerne, on the waters of Rotsee. The three medals won by the Italians in the lightweight doubles, senior doubles and four sculls speak for themselves. These are successes that were built with hard training on Lake Paola, in Sabaudia, by athletes who belong to the military sports groups based in the city.

Gabriel Soares (Navy) and Stefano Oppo (Carabinieri) confirmed their form by winning a splendid gold which bodes well for the Olympic Games. The light blue double lightweight offers a masterful performance by winning the test with a time of 6.17.08 ahead of Switzerland, the reigning European champion, and the reigning Olympic champions Ireland. A truly wonderful victory that rewards the Italian couple who demonstrate perfect harmony in the boat. In this specialty, Italy has not lacked an international podium since 2017. The two repeated the success of the first stage of the World Cup in Varese.

Good performance also by Matteo Sartori from Terracino, son of the Olympic champion Alessio, who, in the senior men’s doubles, together with Luca Rambaldi, won silver behind the strong Netherlands. Behind them is Spain. The two athletes of the Fiamme Gialle di Sabaudia also demonstrated that they are ready for Paris.

The last Sabaudia medal came from the four sculls who took home a bronze. On board the blue boat a team made up of Nicolò Carucci (Fiamme Oro) and Andrea Panizza, Luca Chiumento, Giacomo Gentili (all Fiamme Gialle).
