There was silence. A noisy silence. Spring day that gave off a hellish fire. I remember it as if it were yesterday, May 26th. The previous hours were perceived as useless: it was necessary to start as soon as possible. It wasn’t possible to live like this: the month before the match was daily agony.
“What if we don’t make it?”, “If they were to win, you know what a nightmare”. Nefarious thoughts on every side, almost as if they were afraid of being hit by glory. Even the intercom seemed to be in trouble. Two friends from Lazio come, together with two other friends who were cheering the others. The sense of friendship above all else. We were in the majority this time.
Orsato whistles the start. Trembling. Tic. The leg went up and down. Few words, only hysterical screams even in the face of a lateral foul. Lulic tries, Klose too. Still nothing. On their side Bradley tries, a little Totti, some Destro. The stands are struggling. The anxious silence takes over. Sly like Cana. Here’s Mauri, that’s where he raises his head. He sees the depth of Candreva who runs, runs. Antonio ran towards glory. Lobont touches it. But Lulic more. Harder. IT’S INSIDE!
Lazio is ahead! God was Laziale that evening, together with Totti’s crossbar: that too was Laziale, brought to glory by Marchetti. Asthmatic minutes. But Ciani sweeps it, towards the blue-white sky! Orsato blows. In fact he whistles. Three times.
IT’S OVER! We are Victorious!
