The awards ceremony for the registered athletes took place as part of the Patronal Feast of San Barnaba Apostolo to the Roll of Honor in 2023 a packed and cheering Council Hall of Palazzo Colonna.
“The Roll of Honor awards are scheduled during the calendar year – the Sports Councilor tells us M. Sabrina Minucci – and, by regulation, they should be held in the month of December, but we realized that the ceremony had to have a different investiture. There had to be a community that recognized the merit of these kids and therefore we wanted to institutionalize it on June 11th on the Patron Saint’s Day. Furthermore, we wanted to underline this aspect even more by establishing the Golden Team, cmade up of the boys who entered by right the previous year in the Roll of Honor. We gave him a shirt and created a banner with the commitment of the athletes themselves to carry it in the Procession of San Barnaba. But also in that of the Grape Festival. Everyone they were particularly happy.”
Last year there were 10 relating to 2022. In 2024 there are 8 relating to 2023.
Athletes who have achieved excellent results at a national and international level are entitled to be enrolled in the Roll of Honor. All champions, therefore.
“We also invited Mattia Furlani, silver in the long jump at the recent European Championships in Rome, who was born in Marino to enroll in the Roll of Honor. We are waiting for a response from you” the Councilor tells us again Minucci.
These are the names of the winners who join the 14 athletes and 2 sports clubs registered over the last few years: Christian Guardia – Karting, Sergio Kalaj – Football, Giorgio Quagliarini – Rugby, Sofia Molinari – Lifesaving Swimming, Giorgio Bartolozzi – Skeet Shooting, Noemi Ottaviani – Women’s Football, Laura Bellantoni – Canadian Canoeing, Emanuela De Lullo – Spearfishing. Ambra Basili, Daniela Ferrazza, Cinzia Mereu, Daniela Spedaletti, Lucia Tamburrano and Alessandra Moretti of the ASD Stardust Sporting Center – Sports Dance.
Then there are two athletes who play the role of Testimonial as they obtained titles before the establishment of the Roll of Honor which took place in 2022: Chiara Censors for inline figure skating and ice skating e Alessandro Giovannangelo for deaf basketball
“The Register of Athletes of the City of Marino – we read in the dedicated section on the institutional website of the Municipality of Marino – was created to pay homage to the sporting excellence of our territory, to enhance sport and its functions: educational, to balance individual training; health, as an opportunity to improve lifestyles to contribute to and preserve the state of health; social, as a tool to promote a more supportive and inclusive society and against any abuse; moralizing, as an example of fair competition, team spirit and fair play. The Administration believes that the example of these athletes who have committed themselves with dedication and rigor in the various sports disciplines, can help the young people who live in our territory and be a model for the pursuit of high objectives and, above all, a beacon for choosing between the two paths: that of disengagement and apathy and the other, the path of dedication, sacrifice, of overcoming one’s limits. Growing up in sport means all this and represents, in our opinion, the best way to win the most important game we are called to play: life.”
