After the motorcycle accident that on August 20, 2023 caused him to lose the use of his legs, the twenty-nine year old Simone Cristinelli from Portirone di Parzanica did not give up: the long and tiring rehabilitation, the closeness of family and friends, the desire to face new challenges, allowed him to continue to smile at life. On Sunday 2 June he will participate in the 71to edition of the «Pavia Venezia», a powerboat race together with his friend Pietro Pesci with whom he will travel approximately 400 kilometers along the Po and in the Adriatic Sea until arriving at the dock of the Serenissima arsenal.
Simone and Pietro decided to live this adventure last November when Pietro, an expert carpenter, took care of the restoration of a 1968 «DP6» hull, while Simone, after a long stay of strenuous rehabilitation, dedicated himself entirely to the preparation of the systems, accessories and installation of the new engine, a Mercury F225, which will push the hull from Pavia to the finish line in Venice. «The project – says his brother Luca – is helping Simone to get back into the game, to savor the pleasure of being able to do, in a different way, the job that she loves». A special harness allows him to get close to the engines, examine them and repair them, an activity he carries out together with another “job”: since he returned home, in fact, he has started, through associations, schools and speakers, an important awareness campaign on road safety and safety at work and will continue to spread his testimony. In particular, the message that Simone conveys is that disabilities must not be an obstacle to one’s lifelong passions and one’s work.
The 29-year-old from Parzanica wanted to involve the Basso Sebino Blue Cross in his adventure, who helped him immediately after the accident: the funds collected through the Gofoundme platform or directly by crediting their current account will be allocated to this reality.
