Modica, the first “Santone” was presented yesterday evening to renew the tradition of the past –

Yesterday evening, in the splendid setting of the Church of San Pietro in Modica, the Kalicantun Association’s project to bring the “Santoni” back to the streets of the city was presented.

“Yesterday was a beautiful evening – explains Don Giuseppe Stella. In which we began a community journey, together towards the recovery of one of the most exciting traditions of the feast of Saint Peter, namely the holy men, the reproductions through the so-called ephemeral arts of the twelve apostles who, with their going towards the people, symbolically announced , the message of salvation from Jesus. A practice that comes to us from our fathers and which, with the first “holy man” who represents Saint Peter the apostle, we renew and innovate”.

The parish priest Don Giuseppe Stella, Giuseppe Walter Buscema and Pierpaolo Ruta from the association promoting the rebirth of the Santoni spoke for the presentation of the project.

The Kalicantun association supports the parish of San Pietro in the realization of this project which will see full completion in the jubilee year of 2025. Last night was the official start of an intense year which will see the association, the parish, the workers and the volunteers who will revive in an orderly, solemn and engaging way, one of the traditions most loved by the people of Modica until a few years ago.

The objective of this rebirth will also be to regain the favor and support of the faithful and citizens, to return the feast of St. Peter, as it has always been, the heart of June in Modica.

Scheduled events continue

Meanwhile, the religious program continues which sees the neighborhood mass tomorrow, Tuesday 18 June, at 7pm in via Toscano. On Wednesday, however, there will be a prayer vigil at 8pm in the Mother Church with the presence of the city’s Grest animators and, to follow, games at Largo Mons. Gambuzza as well as the inauguration of the Pippo Giuca youth center.

“Ensuring that the feast of St. Peter the Apostle can once again become central in Modica – say the provincial president of Confcommercio Ragusa, Gianluca Manenti, with the sectional president of Confcommercio, Giorgio Moncada – is an action to recover identity and memory that involves everyone and which will see us engaged on the front line. It is also a way to ensure that the citizens of this great reality can regain awareness of their own identity. In short, we are trying to do everything well, in the right direction. And we are here.”
