The CISL requests an urgent meeting with the leaders of the ASL Salerno and the Polla hospital to address the delicate issue of staff shortages, nurses and OSS, in the Polla hospital. The CISL has detected strong concern following the shortage of personnel in the provision of healthcare in an area which is at least 50 km away from other hospitals and asks for clarification and possibly sharing the actions to be implemented, in order to reassure users of the Polla hospital on continuity of care and the provision of health services. In this case, a strong shortage of department personnel is reported in almost all the operational units but with a critical situation in the operating room, emergency room and medicine.
“Currently – we read in the CISL note – the staff is supporting exhausting shifts of 12 continuous hours, with consequent breaks in rest and a scheduled use of overtime, as well as overcoming workload risks foreseen by current legislation. These conditions can no longer be tolerated since the staff, despite doing their utmost in a commendable way, are no longer in a position to guarantee punctual services and the maintenance of the LEAs”.
This deficiency has already been reported on other occasions and has currently been further highlighted by the Head of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation department who, with the latest note dated 2 May, highlights the impossibility on many occasions of being able to guarantee normal activities for ordinary surgery.
“Taking into account that the summer holiday period will also begin shortly and that the continuation of these conditions will make the reduction of activities and beds inevitable, with inexorable disservices for users, it will not be possible to guarantee basic services and ensure the Leah. Furthermore, there is news circulating of an imminent suspension of Neurology activities which requires an urgent discussion to ensure that the essential services for the communities of the area are guaranteed and to allow the Polla Hospital to maintain its identity of proximity.
To this end, we ask for an immediate meeting to be convened as well as an urgent intervention, with the conspicuous implementation of Nursing Staff and other Department figures such as OSS and Technical staff, in order to better deal with and govern the phases of assistance, with the maximum and timely effectiveness and efficiency, and first and foremost to protect the safety of operators and the health of citizens”. Thus ends the note signed by the Cisl Fp Company Secretary, Enza Cirigliano and by the delegates Antonio Cervone, Giuseppe Procaccio, Gianfranco Climaco and Luigi d’Alessio.
