“I have always pursued the public interest.” Toti’s memory after 9 hours of interrogation

First interrogation for Giovanni Toti after the precautionary detention order under house arrest for the governor of the Liguria Region, involved in the investigation into the corruption in Genoa. During the interrogation, the president had decided to make use of the right not to answer, first wanting to read the papers and understand what the points on which the accusations against him had been made were.

This morning he showed up at the Guardia di Finanza barracks in Genoa, where he was heard by the deputy prosecutors Federico Manotti and Luca Monteverde and by the deputy Vittorio Ranieri Miniati. The interrogation took place at the headquarters of Roan, the air and naval operations department. The governor, taken this morning from his home in Ameglia, entered through the via dei Pescatori gate in a black car. The meeting started around 11am.

At the moment, they are not on the table resignation: the governor could obtain the revocation of pre-trial detention if he resigns his mandate, because the conditions that triggered it would be missing. He would also have an easier time defending himself if he no longer held an institutional role. However, Toti first wants to talk to his allies to understand what is best for the Region. The governor’s defensive line was anticipated by the lawyer al Corriere della Serato which Stefano Savi explained that “Toti doesn’t promise something to Spinelli he does an activity mediation“.

As previously announced, the governor answered all the investigators’ questions on the accusations made against him in what has the form of a river interrogation. The interrogation lasted 8 hours and are over 100, almost 200, questions that the prosecutors posed to the governor, mainly following the trend of the exchange vote and the trend of the funding received by the foundation, such as those highlighted by the investigations into the alleged payments by the entrepreneur Pietro Colucci, manager of some landfills in the Savona area. “He answers all 180 questions they are asking him“, declared his lawyer. During the interrogation, the governor he denied all charges.

The governor also filed a 17-page brief in support of the investigative interrogation held before prosecutors Federico Manotti and Luca Monteverde, together with deputy Vittorio Ranieri Miniati.

A document to explain “the political and moral lines who, since I assumed the honor of leading the Liguria Region, have always informed the activity pursued by the Regional Council with the sole perspective of serving the good and common interest of the Ligurian citizens and their institutions“. In another passage we read that “in my political path I have always pursued the public interest which is the sole and ultimate aim of my political action“.
