“Take example from Vasco Errani, it’s a question of credibility”

Maurizio Landini spoke on the Liguria issue and on Toti’s resignation which has not yet arrived. “When Vasco Errani was president of Emilia Romagna and he received a notice of investigation, a minute later he resigned, only to discover years later that he had nothing to do with it and that he was absolutely innocent. I think that is an important example because when someone plays a role there is not only the problem of what happens to him but there is also the problem of the credibility of the institutions he represents”.

“The risk I see is that, faced with what is happening, an increase in people who no longer feel represented by anyone and this is a weakening of democracy. I therefore believe that there are times when you also have to take responsibility for what you represent. If you think you are innocent you have every right to protect yourself but at the same time you cannot bring the institutions into the abyss. Then everyone obviously responds to their conscience.”

“I consider what Errani did a very important fact that restored credibility to him and the institutions he represented. I think that today we are in an even worse situation because here, from what we read, it seems to me that not an isolated case is emerging. The risk is that we are faced with a system that has established itself in recent years. I believe that 360 degrees of light should be shed without looking anyone in the face and for this reason it is very important to defend the autonomy and independence of the judiciary.”
