A training event organized by the Prefecture of Agrigento in agreement with the non-governmental organization Save the Children and with the collaboration of UNICEF was held at the Diocesan Caritas on the topic of the protection of Unaccompanied Foreign Minors.

The meeting, moderated by the Director of the Prefecture’s Immigration Office, Dr. Gabriele Barbaro, was enriched by the intervention of Lisa Bjelogrlic, Valentina Mascali, Giulia Malatesta and Ivana Dimino, representatives of the Save the Children’s In Frontier intervention programme.

The event, dedicated to the Social Services of the Municipalities of the Agrigento area where there are communities for minors, to the communities that host foreign minors, to the prefectural reception centers and to the local CRI in its capacity as managing body of the Porto Empedocle hotspot, served to examine the issues of protection of migrant minors in emergency and vulnerable conditions, the phenomenology of the migratory flow, the fundamental regulatory principles and the main legal institutions, the child-friendly and child-friendly approach and communication.

The topics covered aroused great interest and an intense debate among operators in the sector who asked numerous questions on concrete cases, giving the speakers the opportunity to suggest practical advice regarding the resolution of the problems discussed.

Today’s meeting is part of the training activity conceived by the Prefect Filippo Romano in favor of local administrations and third sector bodies with the aim of encouraging inter-institutional collaboration on topics of common interest and the professional growth of operators in the migrant reception sector.
