Mallorca, bar terrace collapses: at least 4 dead

Four people died and at least 27 were injured after the collapse of the glass terrace of a cocktail bar located on the first floor of a building in Palma, the capital of Mallorca. The first floor collapsed onto the ground floor and, due to the weight and impact, also collapsed onto the basement of the building. The collapse left several customers of the restaurant trapped, sources from the Local Police of Palma confirm. At 11pm local time the emergency services and firefighters had planned the first excavations to try to locate people alive under the rubble. The Palma firefighters and the national and local police are helped by a drone flying over the area. The local police asked passers-by and onlookers remaining on the sand of the beach to keep quietthe strictest silence so that the rescue teams can hear the voices of possible survivors

Just before 10pm they managed to save a young man with a broken arm who was trapped after the collapse but inside a cavity, news welcomed with joy by the numerous relatives of those affected who had gone to the area. According to rescuers, there are 21 people injured, seven of whom are in conditions defined as “very serious”.

The collapsed building is the Medusa Beach Club, located on calle Cartago, one of the areas most frequented by tourists in the evening and night hours. The terrace on the first floor suddenly fell, falling to the level below and crushing the customers who were below.
