Unapol – National Union of Olive Producers Associations, through the President Tommaso Loiodice, expresses its opinion in relation to the recent interview with the UIL Secretary, Pierpaolo Bombardieri, on the sidelines of a government discussion at Palazzo Chigi in which he defined a series of food products, including which included a bottle of oil, the ‘government’s handout for Italian families’

“We do not intend to interfere in the political debate, which is considered democratically legitimate and necessary,” states President Loiodice. “However, the comparison used by Dr. Bombardieri in his speech, in which he mentions ‘a liter of Italian oil so as not to displease Lollo’, allows us to return to the question of the correct value of extra virgin olive oil.”

“Italian extra virgin olive oil, like other Made in Italy products, is a heritage to be protected and valorised and therefore it would be advisable to avoid its improper use, which impoverishes the image of the product itself”.

“In fact, we believe it is dutiful and appreciable that a Minister of the agricultural sector promotes and defends Italian products, which represent a source of livelihood for thousands of people and families involved in the agri-food sector.”.

Concluding, President Loiodice states: “By paying homage to that bottle, we not only satisfy the Minister but we also honor the hard work of our farmers.”
