PALERMO – It gets underway Panormus. The school adopts the cityThe project with a thirty-year history which is aimed at educational and scholastic institutions of all levels.
This morning, in the Great Hall of the Teatro Massimo, the opening ceremony of the XXVIII edition took place, «Long live Panormus…and Santa Rosalia»dedicated to the city’s most identifying and evocative tradition: the devout cult, between sacred and profane, of Santuzza, for which 2024 marks the fourth centenary of the discovery of her remains.
During the ceremony, the Education Councilor of the Municipality of Palermo Aristide Tamajo handed over the keys to the city to a delegation of girls and boys and the program for the adoption of sites and monuments was presented.
As per tradition, Panormus will take place in May: during three weekends (3-5, 11-12 and 17-19), the students will accompany visitors to discover the 43 sites of the city.

Lagalla: “Initiative has now become tradition”
“The world of schools and the municipal administration are together once again for this initiative which has now become a tradition that highlights the cultural heritage of the city. The Panormus project has always had a strong social and cultural impact” declared the mayor Roberto Lagalla.
“This yearFurthermore, it takes on a particular meaning because the itinerary of this edition will have as its common thread the four hundredth anniversary of Santa Rosalia. It is important that the world of schools and the students of this city also feel the importance of the tradition that combines the sacred and the secular and has a very high symbolic value”.
“My thanks go not only to the students but also to the school managers and teachers who with great commitment accompany the children on this journey and to the municipal Education Department and its offices – concluded Lagalla – for the intense work of coordinating the project“.
Tamajo: “An urban pedagogy project”
“For Panormus there isas always, the entire Palermo school community and I, as Councilor for Education, am proud and happy to participate in the organization of this event, conceived in 1994 by my late colleague Alessandra Siragusa” said councilor Aristide Tamajo.
“An urban pedagogy project that is renewed for this XXVIII edition with the celebration of Santa Rosalia and which will see a massive participation of the schools who have been preparing for months to adopt the city with great enthusiasm”, Tamajo concluded.
Thursday 6 June Teatro Massimowhich has always been an important partner of Panormus, will organize the final day of the event. The students of the musical institutes involved in the project will play and sing on the steps of Piazza Verdi.
On this occasion, the schools will hand the keys to the city back to the mayor.
