Roots tourism is an important operation that is carried out at a regional and national level to help increase the attractiveness of the area. A precious strong point for diversifying the tourist offer and creating the conditions so that those who have visited Friuli Venezia Giulia are encouraged to return, perhaps for a longer period of time and discovering new locations. In the case of fellow citizens abroad it is possible to leverage the emotional bond with the territory and the curiosity to know the land of their ancestors. These are some of the considerations expressed by the regional councilor for local authorities with delegation to fellow countrymen abroad on the occasion of the conference “International root tourism and new employment” organized at the NH Hotels in Trieste. The event was proposed by the International Association of Knights of Tourism and focused on new strategies that can be implemented to guide the choice of tourist destinations by young generations. After noting that there are more descendants of first-generation emigrants who live outside the regional borders than those who live in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the councilor recalled the “Remember, return, root Fvg” project which implements the call for proposals “Roots Tourism” ideas issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The initiative involves, in addition to PromoTurismoFVG and Erpac Fvg, also the associations of fellow countrymen abroad recognized in the area, with the aim of raising awareness among local communities and creating targeted and integrated tourist offers, through the creation of new figures specialized in planning and promotion activities for services relating to roots tourism. Finally, the councilor identified as a strong point of traditional tourism the propensity of visitors arriving from abroad to visit even unconventional destinations at any time of the year. A double opportunity, as it can allow us to bring new flows of people to Friuli Venezia Giulia who, in turn, can bring to foreign countries the testimony of a more evolved region full of opportunities compared to the eras of great emigration.
