A 17-year-old Colombian girl was found in her pajamas while walking along the subway tracks in Catania.
In an evident state of confusion, she stepped onto the tracks at Piazza Galatea station, in the city centre, before being stopped by the police at San Nullo station, on the outskirts of the city.
The alarm was raised by some passengers present at the Galatea station and by the operators of the metro surveillance system, who immediately stopped the trains from 7.10am to 7.55am to ensure safety.
The young woman was intercepted by police officers, taken out of the subway and entrusted to the care of doctors at the San Marco hospital, where she was transferred by ambulance.
The girl’s recognition was possible thanks to her sister, to whom she was entrusted. The minor is now in good health, but she remains in hospital under the observation of psychiatric doctors.
The police are trying to reconstruct the circumstances that led the young woman to this confused state and to undertake the dangerous journey on the subway tracks.
