Partially accepting the question formulated “in the extreme alternative” by Cristiano Ronaldothe arbitration award of the League, the FIGC and the Footballers’ Association has «Juventus’ pre-contractual liability was ascertained» and sentenced her to pay the Portuguese the sum of 9,774,166.66 euros».
CR7 had asked for double, but according to the arbitration judges, the player would have had contributory negligence — not taking action as it could have through signing federal forms — in the order of 50 percent. The dispute refers to some of Ronaldo’s monthly payments which had been frozen with salary adjustments due to Covid. The sum that Juve will have to pay to Ronaldo will be as “compensation for damages”.
After requesting the documents from the Turin Prosecutor’s Office (Dybala had done the same, but the Argentine had then reached an agreement with the club to collect his approximately three million back wages), Cristiano Ronaldo had decided to take legal action.
During the forced suspension of the championship due to Covid, a period of 105 days, lat Juventus he was the protagonist of two salary maneuvers, one in 2020 and one in 2021, which then ended up in the crosshairs of the investigation by the Turin prosecutor’s office and then also at the basis of a sports justice proceeding (which ended with a plea bargain): the first concerned the entire team group plus the coach of that year (Maurizio Sarri); the second was discussed with each player and consisted of giving up some monthly payments for a budget saving of around 60 million euros.
The players, at a later stage, signed integration agreements, including the famous “Ronaldo card”, i.e. the documentation (signed by Fabio Paratici, the former Juve sporting director investigated with the other top management) of the agreement between the footballer and Juventus, as a guarantee – according to the interpretation of the prosecution – of an “unconditional” payment of the monthly wages that the Portuguese had initially renounced.
