Molteno: theater show on the witness Piero Nava

September 21, 1990 Piero Nava, a sales representative originally from Lecco, is traveling along the state road that takes him from Enna to Caltanisetta. After passing the exit for Canicattì he notices a car, a red Fiesta, stopped on the side of the road and a man climbing over the guardrail. Two motorcyclists and a Fiat Uno are also there, stopped. A scene that immediately appears ”strange” to him. He passes them, looks into the rearview mirror and notices that one of the two motorcyclists is holding a gun. What happens? Piero rushes to a colleague’s office, then calls the police to report what he saw.
From then on his life will change irremediably. Yes, because what you witnessed was the assassination of judge Rosario Livatino.

From that 21st September Piero Nava ”dies” to be reborn as a Witness of Justice, the first in Italy.
The story of Piero Nava taken from the book ”I am nobody” (written by Lecco journalists Lorenzo Bonini, Stefano Scaccabarozzi and Paolo Valsecchi), was told by the actor Alberto Bonacina in the show ”I was there too”on stage on Sunday in the hall of the Oratorio San Giovanni Bosco in Molteno.
About a hundred spectators were present, many of whom were boys and girls, invited by the ”Habitat – young people who live the territory” project, the project aimed at young people from Polo Brianza Ovest led by the Cooperativa Sociale Sineresi, literally enraptured by the story banal of a ”normal” hero, who in the face of an injustice did not make the most comfortable choice, but (in the words of Nava himself) ”the right thing, the only thing to do”.

”It’s nice to see so many young people present – he said Sara Brennacouncilor for public education of the municipality of Molteno – Piero Nava is an example for everyone, especially for young people, because he has put his principles into practice, not without fear, but demonstrating that you are true citizens if you speak with your actions and their own choices, taking responsibility for them until the end”.

This was echoed by Elisa Valsecchi, representative of the 9 municipalities of the Brianza Ovest hub, which together with the Community Foundation of Lecco and the Territorial Area of Lecco financed the Habitat project: ”In our territory the presence of mafia organizations is widespread but still very underestimated. The proposal for this show, which follows some meetings that Alberto Bonacina as Coordinator of Libera Lecco held at the Youth Centers of the Polo, was born from the desire to raise awareness among citizens, especially the younger ones, on the topic of the fight against mafias , but also promote an approach to being active and engaged citizens. We hope, in our small way, to have contributed to giving rise to an interest and desire to commit in the kids”.
