The prefect Salvatore Angieri will soon convene an operational table

Installing fire hydrants along the roads to ensure a prompt supply in the active fight against forest and interface fires: this is one of the recommendations contained in the circular that the Prefecture of Oristano sent to all the bodies and institutions involved in the Civil Protection system.

The document signed by the prefect Salvatore Angieri calls for the planning and organization of the respective operational procedures, for a strengthening of prevention activities that allow us to safely face the summer season now upon us.

“It is necessary to carry out fire prevention activities well in advance considering that already from the current month, with high temperatures and strong winds, the ignition of fires is facilitated. Soon”, announces the prefect, “a discussion table will be convened between all the actors involved”.

The note explains that “the Provincial Fire Brigade Command will operate in collaboration with the Regional Forestry Corps and – in the event of interface fires – will assume the technical coordination of the rescue efforts. The Police Forces will instead be called to strengthen the control device of the territory.”

“The Port Authority will ensure the intensification of surveillance of the coasts to guarantee possible rescue operations and the identification of areas suitable for the retrieval of water from the sea by aerial vehicles involved in emergencies”.

“The Forestry Corps and the Forestas Agency will ensure adequate supervision in the area, allowing the sudden sighting of any fire outbreaks”.

In the circular, Prefect Angieri draws the mayors’ attention to the need to draw up and update municipal and inter-municipal civil protection plans, in which “it is necessary to highlight the potential and current risk areas. Particular attention must be paid to areas and sites of historical, artistic, landscape and archaeological interest, where the activation of specific territorial controls may be useful.”

It will also be the mayors’ duty to guarantee information to the population on the risks and the rules of conduct to be adopted.

Finally, a reminder was addressed to the road infrastructure managers – starting with Anas and the Province -, underlining the fundamental importance of prevention activities to be implemented promptly at the beginning of the fire season.
