PRICE – The awards ceremony of the XVIII edition of Frantolio, the traditional Peligno Good Oil competition, will be held in Prezza (L’Aquila), in Piazza Umberto I, on April 21st.

This year the olive growers provided 80 oil samples for the event, almost double compared to last year’s edition, demonstrating the commitment that the local olive growers put into caring for and safeguarding the olive growing heritage of the area.

The event will be opened by greetings from the mayor Marianna Scocciaof the president of the Province Angelo Carusoof the director of the Serpieri Agricultural Institute, Francesco Di Girolamoby the director of the Bcc of Pratola Peligna Silvio Lancione and the president of the Carispaq Foundation Domenico Taglieri.

The Serpieri Agricultural Institute, through the students, will carry out a speech entitled “Presentation of Peligna olive growing. The plant pathologist agronomist Domenico D’Ascenzo will speak on the topic “Phytosanitary defense against olive tree adversities”.

At the end, the announcement of the five olive growers and millers who won the competition and the five special mentions. All announced by Marino Giorgetti, responsible for the Panel of tasters of the Abruzzo Region.

The awards ceremony will be preceded, on Friday 19 April, by an olive tree pruning course for the students of the Serpieri Institute, organized by Luciano Pollastri, agronomist, former technical officer at the Agriculture Directorate of the Abruzzo Region. On Saturday 20th, however, at the Dopolavoro di Prezza room, again in Piazza Umberto I, Lorenzo Palazzoli will hold a guided oil tasting lesson.

“The recovery of the surface of abandoned olive groves, the birth of new companies with an olive-growing focus and the construction of new plants is being noted throughout the Peligno territory” comments the president of the Rustica e Gentile Association which promotes the competition Franco Volpe.
