Rescaldina is preparing to become the scene of a major emergency for a provincial-level Civil Protection exercise in the forest firefighting sector which on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April will involve more than one hundred volunteers and will see them working side by side the Civil Protection associations of Cerro Maggiore and Busto Garolfo, together with their “colleagues” from the province of Varese.
«The exercise includes some scenarios in which the spread of fires within wooded areas even close to homes will be simulated – explains the municipal administration of Rescaldina -. Therefore, various Civil Protection and Fire Brigade vehicles will be present in the area, as well as ambulances, Carabinieri and Local Police. Demonstrative warnings will also be issued and some roads may be closed. We therefore invite citizens not to be alarmed and to collaborate so that the exercise can be carried out properly.”
The exercise will be a fundamental training moment not only for the volunteers, but also for the citizens. «Since the area concerned is close to the province of Varese and the Milan Metropolitan Area, AIB volunteers from both provinces will work side by side sharing their experiences – underlines Antonella Merlotti, president of the Civil Protection of Busto Garolfo -. For several weeks the Civil Protection volunteers Busto Garolfo and Cerro Maggiore they are working frantically to organize and prepare everything necessary for the success of the event, in absolute safety for all participants. These appointments are of great importance not only for operators in the sector, who will find themselves testing new intervention methods; but they also serve to prepare the population to face emergencies. The aim is to encourage the growth of a modern culture of Civil Protection and to spread awareness that emergencies do not only concern operators and institutions, but also the individual citizen».
