Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo per la
International Dance Day – 29 April 2024

It is a universal language that overcomes barriers and borders. It is the movement of freedom and expression that interconnects the internal and external world, which generates well-being for those who practice it and those who admire it. It is for these and many other reasons that the International Dance Council of UNESCO has established the International Dance Day, which is celebrated on 29 April, promoted to commemorate the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), the most great choreographer of his era, the creator of modern ballet.
This year too, Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo adheres to this event with enthusiasm and conviction, to remember the value of dance art not only from an artistic but also an educational point of view.
Hence the commitment, throughout the year, to the promotion of this discipline which generates emotional and psychological growth, the acquisition of artistic sensitivity and the building of social relationships, suitable for all ages, all genders, to all abilities.
For the Foundation, dance is not limited to the dense program of shows throughout Tuscany, but is one of the protagonists of the training projects.
As part of its educational activity, Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo onlus programs numerous workshops throughout the year aimed at students of all levels, teachers, trainers and operators in the theater sector.
Among the activities proposed, dance over the years has proven to be a very useful theatrical language for educational purposes, engaging, which facilitates communication between students and trainers.
With these objectives, DanzArte was born last February. Dance actions among the paintings of the Siena Art Gallery, created in collaboration with the National Art Gallery, to enhance the contamination between different expressive languages and different eras. The companies Adarte with the show Vox Corporis, Motus with Blu Sodoma and Francesca Selva with Ex Voto, brought dance into dialogue with the works of the Sienese museum.
The Toscana Spettacolo Foundation also participated in the 2024 edition of Fiera Didacta Italia, at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from 20 to 22 March, with two workshops dedicated to teachers. The first, entitled Movement and empathy, edited by Davide Valrosso (NINA Association). The second, entitled Questions are light, edited by Aline Nari (Aldes). The two training events, designed to bring school and dance art into dialogue, were organized in collaboration with INDIRE (National Institute of Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research).
In Prato, however, the Metamorpholand project was created, a laboratory in primary school classes, curated by Kinkaleri: an approach to entertainment that found an important moment of dramaturgical research in direct comparison with the new generations. At the center was a literary game contained in Ovid’s work, where the participants, organized in class groups, were involved in a system of inventions through the continuous associations between stories and images.

It is for the same purposes that Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo was the leader of the Io sono te project in 2024, for the third year. Methodology for a theater for all, which involves the Circuits of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Puglia, Marche, Campania, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, Lazio, Trentino, Veneto, Abruzzo and Molise, thanks to the collaboration between Indire, (National Institute of Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research) and ARTI (Association of artists operating in all regions of Italy.
Theatre, and with it dance, is understood once again as a tool for inclusion and removal of obstacles linked to diversity. This is the theme at the center of the project, which, through the dialogue between the world of the performing arts and that of school, provides teachers, educators and artists with the tools to understand and overcome inequalities with the aim of promoting the theme of inclusion in all teaching and training areas.
The training course sees 3,192 participants including teachers, educators from childcare services, school managers and artists from all regions of Italy.
At the Sant’Andrea Theater in Pisa, in April, Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo proposed the seminar, aimed at teachers, Danza in Silenzio, curated by Aline Nari (Aldes).
