The strike of all staff employed by companies that apply the CCNL of Modern Organized Distribution – Federdistribuzione is proclaimed for Saturday 30 March 2024 which will be implemented through abstention from work for the entire daily shift”. This was announced in a CGIL note. Filcams, Fisascat, Uiltucs, after the “breakdown of negotiations with Federdistribuzione, no renewal of the DMO’s collective bargaining agreement which expired on 31 December 2019”.
«Federdistribuzione’s allergy to signing contracts – the unions write in the press release – is well known: already during the last negotiating round, the signing of the DMO CCNL, which took place on 19 December 2018, came 45 months after the signing of the CCNL TDS Confcommercio (intervened on 30 March 2015). This delay translated into a net loss for the workers of the modern organized distribution of the order of several thousand euros in terms of lower salary received during the contractual validity period compared to their colleagues who, despite carrying out the same tasks and by operating in the same sector, they received more significant economic treatments”.
Unfortunately – the unions write – after years, Federdistribuzione’s intolerance towards contracts has not waned, on the contrary it has worsened. Almost 51 months have now passed since the expiry of the first (and last) CCNL signed by the aforementioned employers’ association with FILCAMS-CGIL, FISASCAT-CISL and UILTuCS and the pathological reluctance to give the right recognition in economic terms to the employees of its associated companies shows no signs of to ease.
After a long and unnerving negotiation, – the unions continue – Federdistribuzione has dropped its mask (again): it is not satisfied with having irresponsibly abandoned for almost five years an entire category of employees grappling with an inflationary dynamic that has put it to the test the maintenance of their incomes, in fact, submitted to the Trade Unions, during a non-stop negotiation phase (which began at 2.30 pm yesterday and was interrupted around 8.00 am the following day) which should have led to the signing of the long-awaited renewal agreement, a series of unrealistic demands aimed solely at ruining an already complex negotiation.
Federdistribuzione speaks of a “missed opportunity” and considers the strike “an act of serious irresponsibility and without foundation”.
«Despite the refusal of the trade union organizations to renew the contract, the participating companies – explains Federdistribuzione – have therefore decided to grant their workers an increase of 70 euros gross (reparameterised to level IV) starting from next April as an advance on future contractual increases, maintaining the hope that the trade union organizations can return to the negotiating table as soon as possible with the common objective of reaching the contractual renewal”.
In Turin
Retail workers will demonstrate from 10 to 12 in front of the Carrefour hypermarket in Corso Montecucco in Turin on March 30, the day of the national strike of modern organized distribution companies. The protest was called after the breakdown of negotiations “for the renewal of the contract which expired way back in 2019 and was awaited by over 240 thousand workers employed by companies associated with Federdistribuzione”.
In Palermo
For the national strike of workers of companies that apply the national contract of modern organized distribution, on Saturday 30 March the employees of companies such as Lidl, Zara, Rinascente, Leroy Merlin, Oviesse, Penny Market and the Ergon group are also mobilizing in Palermo, who take to the streets with the flags of Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs.
The joint strike was called by the national secretariats of the trade unions following the breakdown of the negotiating table with Federdistribuzione for the renewal of the employment contract, which expired more than 51 months ago. The territorial secretariats of Filcams, Fisascati and Uiltucs will be with the workers in garrison in via Ruggero Settimo from 9.30 to 1.30, in front of the Zara and Oviesse stores, where a flash mob will take place. The long and exhausting non-stop negotiation, which lasted over 17 hours on March 26 and 27, ended with no results.
In Veneto
A series of demonstrations and public initiatives are planned tomorrow in Veneto, as part of the strike due to non-renewal of the contract in large-scale retail trade structures. The dispute concerns around 500 thousand large-scale retail workers at a national level, in Veneto 30 thousand, 65% represented by women. The initiatives will be held between 9.00 and 13.30. In Belluno a garrison is planned at the Despar and Famila in the hospital area; in Mestre (Venice) a garrison in Piazzetta Coin; in Padua at Ikea, Ipercity, Despar in via Battaglia and at Lidl in via Card. Callegari; in Rovigo a garrison at the Prefecture; in Treviso at the Panorama Stiore; in Verona in front of the Prefecture, and in Vicenza at the Leroy Merlin store.
In Tuscany
All-day strike on March 30 of all staff employed by companies that apply the national collective bargaining agreement for modern organized distribution – Federdistribuzione. This was announced by Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs of Tuscany after the breakdown of negotiations with Federdistribuzione due to the failure to renew the Ccnl, which expired in 2029.
«Workers are disappointed and tired of the attitude of their employers, guilty of not wanting to recognize a dutiful and fair increase in wages, without, however, this being exchanged for the worsening of living and working conditions and above all that continues to make an already highly precarious sector precarious, which sees 65% of women in the workforce who need everything except regulatory and salary insecurities”, underline the secretaries of Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Toscana. During the day of mobilization, flash mobs will be organized near the sales points of the most representative companies in each province of Tuscany, as well as impromptu demonstrations where our territorial federations need to promote them.”
