(AGENPARL) – Rome, 29 March 2024

A meeting with university researchers who are developing artificial intelligence and machine learning projects, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the world of research and business, aiming to enhance the work of the academic world and make it “spendable” on an industrial level. It is the latest initiative launched by Seeweb and the Job Placement and Technology Transfer office of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio. The Seeweb company – born in Frosinone and today part of an international industrial group with over 14 offices in the world, leader in the networking, cloud computing and storage sectors – and the University of Cassino have been engaged for some time in a collaboration which today finds in the field of artificial intelligence, a means to best develop the innovative solutions developed within the University, to explore all their potential application fields. On the one hand there is therefore the University, with its researchers who are creating models applicable on a large scale, on the other there is Seeweb which provides infrastructures for AI and supercomputing aiming at sustainability and data governance, and establishing collaborations with the academic world. The meeting was organized by Professor Luigi Ferrigno, Functional Vice Rector of the Third Mission. After the greetings of the Rector of the University, Marco Dell’Isola, the CEO and DHH of Seeweb, Antonio Baldassarra, spoke, illustrating the industrial profile and the real market, social and economic impact of AI. Baldassarra explained which problems have emerged in the development of artificial intelligence, and analyzed which scenarios will emerge in the future. “The university world has always been involved in experimentation and research, and can be an important driver for the development of artificial intelligence solutions in the name of ethics and with the possibility of being applied to the business world, creating innovation and retaining talents in Italy”. This was stated by the CEO of Seeweb, Antonio Baldassarra on the sidelines of the meeting with the university. Representatives of 18 research groups, from all departments of the University, then attended to present the AI and ML projects they have developed within the University. The innovative solutions concern sectors as diverse as cultural heritage, health, energy, economic sciences, and allow companies to react promptly to market changes, carry out predictive maintenance interventions on industrial devices and machines, develop tools of computer vision applied to biblical manuscripts, or to analyze the impact that the past urban and territorial structure has had on populations. During their presentations, the researchers not only discussed technological solutions, but also addressed ethical and legal issues, economic, anthropological and environmental implications. The meeting was therefore an opportunity to extend the debate to different areas, thus reflecting the multidisciplinary profile that the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio is following.
