PISA – The Fire Brigade Command of Pisa on the days from 25 to 28 March was the protagonist of the 1st Testing Exercise of the project co-financed by European Commission, European Civil Protection Mechanism, OVERC.OME acronym for Cross-border cOopertation in Managing Emergency (cross-border cooperation for emergency management).
The project was born from a strategic partnership of Italian and French end users: Fire Brigade (CNVVF), Fire and Rescue Department of Haute-Savoie (SDIS73) as well as the International CBRN Institute (ICI), based in Belgium and specialized in the field NBCR-E (Nuclear, Bacteriological, Chemical, Radiological and/or Explosive) which includes experts in the military and civil sector. During these days it was possible to evaluate and test the first project results after the first year of work.
In particular, the functionalities of the Virtual Operations Room between Italy and France (SOFIA) and the operational guidelines for the NBCR area were tested and evaluated by an evaluation unit with the first shared forms.
The project aims to strengthen long-term collaboration on the Italian-French border within the framework of already existing cross-border cooperation protocols with the final objective of improving the quality of the information flow to reduce intervention times and improve coordination during NBCR interventions and help strengthen mutual cooperation for border interventions also in other areas with a Virtual Operations Room which could be a model for other countries interested in its use. The testing was organized and carried out over two days within the USAR National Training Center in Pisa and at the Santa Barbara Residence Center in Tirrenia (PI) and situations of joint intervention and activation of French operations rooms were simulated she is Italian. The results of the testing will therefore allow us to continue the development of the NBCR operational guidelines with the related forms and of SOFIA which will be tested again in October 2024.
