PONTE SAN NICOLO’ (PADUA) – Church of San Nicola full in every order of space. Over a thousand people said their final goodbyes to Adriano Scandellari, the 57-year-old engineer who died in the hydroelectric power plant massacre in the Bologna area. The benches outside are also full of faithful. Also present were Alpine troops, civil protection and Suem health workers: carabinieri and local police to keep watch over those present. Adriano’s body arrives at the church accompanied by his wife Sabrina Greggio and his two daughters. A crowd with bowed heads welcomed the coffin while waiting for the mass to begin.

The mass is celebrated by the parish priest Don Daniele Cognolato who from the first moments accompanied his wife and daughters on this difficult journey towards today’s funeral. Among those present in the church was the regional councilor Roberto Marcato.

The mass begins with a brief biography of the deceased: «A person of rare beauty, he married in 2004 from whose love Elena Laura was born. Vice president of the pastoral council, star for merit for work. We found it on Thursday and today we want to entrust it to the lord. «Adriano was a discreet person, he never wanted to have the role of leader. His well-being was the joy of others. This is the essence of a great friend, of a piece of rare beauty of our parish community. And this is why tonight (yesterday for those reading) we are here to remember him in prayer.”

SOLD OUT

The church of San Nicola was already sold out at 8.20pm. Over three hundred people filled the parish following the rosary with great emotional transport. At least 50 other people remained outside, but not without actively participating in the religious moment. With these numbers it is probable that today starting from 10.30 the number of faithful who will want to give a final farewell to their friend Adriano and virtually hold his wife and daughters in this delicate moment will be close to a thousand. Mayor Martino Schiavon has proclaimed city mourning for today. Flags at the town hall will be at half-mast. The mayor let citizens know that for today business owners will be able to express their condolences to the Scandellari family by participating in the city’s mourning in the ways they deem most appropriate.

TRAFFIC BLOCKED

An ordinance was also signed on the traffic front in conjunction with the probable arrival of hundreds of cars in front of the parish. Specifically, between 9.30 and 12.30, via Giorato will be closed at the intersection with via Roma along the SS 516 Piovese up to the intersection with via Magenta and via Trieste. Traffic was also blocked in Piazza Liberazione, at the beginning of the coplanar road that leads to the nursery school of the Holy Guardian Angels. The same limitation, between 9.30 and 12.30, will also concern the stretch of via Firenze at the intersection with via Giorato and via Venezia, also at the intersection with via Giorato.
