On the occasion of the celebration of Chrism Mass of Holy Thursday, the State Police donated to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Turin and Bishop of Susa, Monsignor Roberto Repole, to the Bishop of Pinerolo Monsignor Derio Olivero, and to that of Ivrea, Monsignor Edoardo Aldo Cerrato, the oil ampoules appropriately made available by the Department of Public Security for all police stations in Italy.

The ceremony comes on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of mafia massacres of Capaci and via D’Amelio, where the judges Giovanni Falcone, Paolo Borsellino and Francesca Morvillo lost their lives. The policemen of the escort Antonio Montinaro, Rocco Dicillo, Vito Schifani, Agostino Catalano, Eddie Walter Cosina, Vincenzo Li Muli, Claudio Traina and Emanuela Loi died with them.

In the place where the terrible explosion occurred on 23 May 1992, near the junction for Capaci along the A/29 motorway, today stands a garden looked after by the “Quarto Savona Diecici” association. Different things insist on this terrain olive trees, each dedicated to a person from the institutions who has fallen at the hands of the mafia. It is from each of them that the oil was extracted, consecrated in the Chrism Mass of Holy Week, which will be used as holy oil during this liturgical year.
