Flavio Briatore underwent surgery for a heart tumor and has already been discharged. He confirmed it himself with a video on social media. Briatore was operated on March 19 by Francesco Maisano, cardiac surgeon at San Raffaele. It was a minimally invasive operation, performed via endoscopic thoracotomy, with extracorporeal circulation.

“Medical prevention is fundamental,” Briatore then wrote on social media, describing the operation in a video. “Following a routine check-up – he said – I underwent heart surgery because I had a benign mass which was removed with a minimally invasive operation, using an endoscopic technique” he himself wrote on social media. “The surgery was a perfect success, and I warmly thank Prof. Francesco Maisano, the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Team and the legendary 1st Q Department of San Raffaele”, he added.

What is a heart tumor

The benign heart tumor that affected Flavio Briatore, who underwent surgery at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, is a rare pathology (these tumors represent 0.02% of all human tumors), often identified by chance. A typical feature of benign tumors is that they can grow, but not invade surrounding tissues and other organs. Malignant tumors, however, have exactly this ability. Additionally, these cancer cells can spread to other regions of the body and form metastases.
