(Teleborsa) – Istat announces that in February 2024 i producer prices of industry in Italy decreased by 1.0% on a monthly basis and by 10.8% on an annual basis (it was -10.7% in January).
On the internal market prices decreased by 1.5% compared to January and by 14.2% on an annual basis (from -14.0% in the previous month). Net of the energy sector, prices recorded a modest cyclical decline (-0.1%) and a stable trend decline at -2.1%.
On the foreign market prices increase by 0.1% on a monthly basis (-0.2% euro area, +0.4% non-euro area) and decrease by 1.3% on an annual basis (-2.2% euro area, – 0.4% non-euro area).
In the quarter December 2023-February 2024, compared to the previous one, industrial producer prices decrease by 2.6% (-3.5% domestic market, -0.4% foreign market).
In February 2024, among the manufacturing activities, the largest trend declines concern the chemical products sectors (-9.6% domestic market, -9.0% euro area), metallurgy and manufacturing of metal products (-5.4% domestic market, -7.2% euro area, -6.7% non-euro area) and the wood, paper and printing industry (-4.0% domestic market, -10.6% euro area, -3.6% non-euro area). The highest trend increases are found in the sectors of transport (+4.4% non-euro area) and basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+3.2% euro area). On the domestic market, the year-on-year decline in the prices of extractive activities (-31.0%) and the supply of electricity and gas (-37.2%) remains marked.
In February 2024 construction producer prices for “Residential and non-residential buildings” decreased by 0.3% on a monthly basis and by 0.6% on an annual basis (it was -0.5% in January). The prices of “Roads and Railways” show a modest cyclical increase (+0.1%) and decline by 2.3% in trend terms (from -2.9% in the previous month).
