Spoleto, 28 March 2024 – This morning, at the Institute for Superintendents of the State Police in Spoleto, the 37th commemoration of the Gold Medal for Civil Valor took place for Assistant Chief of the State Police Rolando Lanari, killed during an attack terrorist attack on February 14, 1987.

The day opened with the Solemn Flag Raising ceremony, attended by the attendees of the 17th Student Deputy Inspectors course of the State Police and the 6th course for Scientific Police operators, as well as the permanent staff of the Institute.

We then proceeded to lay a laurel wreath on the monument dedicated to the memory of Assistant Chief Lanari and his blessing by the Institute Chaplain.

The commemoration continued at the “Antiochia-Cassarà” Auditorium, where a conference entitled “Rolando Lanari: history of a terrorist event was held. Evolution of the strategy to combat the phenomenon between past and present”, with speakers from the Police Commissioner of the Province of Brescia, General Director of the PS, Dr. Eugenio Spina, and the Director of the Service for combating extremism and external terrorism of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police, Senior Director of the PS, Dr. Lucio PIFFERI.

Also present were the Police Commissioner of the Province of Perugia, General Director of PS Dr. Fausto Lamparelli, the Director of the Schools Inspectorate, General Director of PS Dr. Tiziana Terribile and the provincial and local civil and military authorities.

As underlined by Dr. Tiziana Terribile, the conference was “an opportunity to remember the values ​​that animated the work of many colleagues who with honor and courage sacrificed their lives in service”. A way to allow the Student Deputy Inspectors of the 17th course who attended the meeting to acquire “awareness of what their future role should be, of service with discipline and honor”.

In fact, as Commissioner Lamparelli highlighted, that of Rolando Lanari “is an example of a lifestyle to always keep firmly in memory, because a community that has no memory of the past and of those who sacrificed their lives for Legality, does not has a future.”

The object of the meeting, precisely to nourish and keep the memory alive, was a historical study on the period of the so-called “years of lead” and a reconstruction of the roots and transformation of the phenomenon of external terrorism, up to the analysis of the situation current.

The conference, held by Dr. Spina and Dr. Pifferi, leading experts in the field of prevention activities, was followed with great attention and participation by the Student Deputy Inspectors.
