Luke 4:16-21
From the Gospel according to Luke
At that time, Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and as usual, on the Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and stood up to read. He was given the scroll of the prophet Isaiah; he opened the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
«The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;
for this reason he anointed me
and he sent me to bring the good news to the poor,
to proclaim liberation to the prisoners
and sight to the blind;
to set the oppressed free
and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
He rewound the scroll, handed it back to the attendant and sat down. In the synagogue, everyone’s eyes were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them: “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
