MASSA MARITTIMA – This morning, after a moment of joyful brotherhood and sharing, the tradition was renewed of the delivery by the Commissioner of Grosseto, Antonio Mannoni, to the Bishop of Massa Marittima-Piombino, SE Rev.ma Monsignor Carlo Ciattini, of a ‘ampule of oil obtained from the fruits of the olive trees that grow in the place where thirty-two years ago, on 23 May 1992, the terrible mafia massacre of Capaci (PA) took place, in which judge Giovanni Falcone lost his life together with his wife Francesca Morvillo and his three escort agents Antonio Montinaro, Vito Schifani and Rocco Dicillo.
There today stands an olive grove cared for by the Quarto Savona 15 association (radio theme song of the escort car), animated by Tina Montinaro, widow of the escort leader, who in recent days is carrying the case containing the remains of the escort car around throughout Italy, (in Grosseto on March 19) in order to spread anti-mafia culture among young people and encourage them to follow the value of legality and the sense of duty that animated the policemen killed by the mafia while escorting judge Falcone.
Capaci oil will be added to the oil of our lands, blessed and consecrated on the occasion of the celebration of the Chrism mass which will be held tomorrow, Thursday 28 March, at the cathedral of San Cerbone, presided over by Bishop Carlo and the priests of our diocese which will be followed by the distribution of the holy oil which can be used throughout the year for anointing at baptisms, confirmations, for the sick and for sacred orders.
The gift of the fruit of those olive trees, born from the earth bathed in the blood of the mafia victims, wants to be, precisely during this Holy Week, a strong sign, a symbol of redemption and the depth of religious feeling, which must never be lost sight of the radicality and authenticity of the evangelical message.
