Well yes, the new tournament for national teams wanted by FIFA has just ended: and just as no one knew anything about FIFA Series before we talked about it at the beginning of March, this time too the matter remained ‘hidden’ behind the play-offs for the last three places in the final phase of the European Championships (the prerogative of Georgia, Poland and Ukraine) and the high-profile friendlies that took place played in recent days, such as Spain-Brazil, Germany-Holland and England-Belgium, not to mention the two matches Italy won over Venezuela and Ecuador. But last Tuesday in Cairo Luka Modric raised a trophy amidst the usual fireworks, as befits those who win a global competition, even if the cabotage of the success of the Croatia it’s definitely low.
After beating theEgypt 4-2 in front of 80 thousand spectators, the Croatian captain celebrated together with his teammates, while many in front of the TV didn’t even know what trophy was raised by Modric: it was theEgypt International Capital Cupwhich rewarded the winner of one of the 6 groups of 4 teams into which this first edition of the FIFA Series was divided which acted as a pilot. Initially the Egypt International Capital Cup was not included in the FIFA Series, which included 5 groups for a total of 20 teams competing in four different locations on the planet: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia (two groups) and Sri Lanka.
