What the new Apple CarPlay will be like

INTEGRATED INTO THE CAR – Plan to build own car failed (here to find out more), the Apple it has not completely abandoned the automotive sector, but has concentrated on software and the development of its own operating system CarPlay. During its annual developer conference, the company released images showing the new interface ahead of its final launch. The objective in this case is not to compete with Android Auto, with which CarPlay is already fighting its battle in the field of “mirroring” from smartphones, but with Android Automotive, the operating system that Google distributes to manufacturers to install inside cars (here for the latest news). And while Google has already managed to convince several manufacturers to rely on Android Automotive, Apple is still struggling a lot.

CUSTOMIZED BY THE HOUSES – The new preview images show different approaches, including the classic display on the central infotainment screen, while other widgets are displayed on the displays in the cockpit. The pictures also show the level of integration with the vehicle that Apple hopes to achieve with the new CarPlay. The updated system will include multiple apps to manage different vehicle data, including battery charge, instant speed or tire pressure: all the information will be displayed on one screen, including the dashboard, based on a layout that will be chosen by the car manufacturer.

THE widgets and the available apps can be combined as desired by the manufacturer, who will also have the possibility to decide the degree of customization of the system to be left to users. Through CarPlay you can also manage the vehicle settings, choosing for example the driving mode, or activating and deactivating the driving assistants or internal functions. Passengers will be able to control the climate control and receive notifications on their smartphone when the car battery is fully charged.

YOU STILL NEED THE IPHONE – The new Apple CarPlay It should debut during 2024 on the new models Porsche and of theAston Martin, however the bitten apple company is reportedly working with other big names to integrate its operating system on other vehicles. There new generation of CarPlay will always and in any case be connected to an iPhone, therefore it will not be an autonomous operating system like Android Automotive, but it will not in any case not be available on cars compatible with the current version of CarPlay: it will in fact require new hardware and customers will not be able upgrade the system unless the automaker allows them this option.
