The game is currently in full production at Ubisoft Montreal, with support from co-development studios in Toronto, Bucharest, Paris and Pune. The goal is to remain faithful to the originalmodernizing combat, narrative and other aspects.

In the last year, the project has passed from the concept phase to full production, as McIntyre explains. Granger has supported the since last summer, underlining the personal importance of the game as far as she is concerned.

Granger describes the remake approach with four pillars: «sanctify, respect, modernize and add.»

Each element of the original game is evaluated according to these criteria to decide whether to keep it unchanged, improve it slightly, modernize it or introduce something new. Among the examples cited in this sense are wall running, the dagger of time, while other aspects including the level design which will be updated and improved.

McIntyre focuses on the need to modernize combat to bring it into line with current standards, citing games like Dark Souls And God of War as major influences.

Speaking about the release date, set for a distant 2026, Ubisoft explains that accurate and quality work is necessary. Granger wants players to be captivated by the world of Azad, described as a “poetic odyssey” with a visually striking setting and engaging narrative.
