Netatmo presented Smart Lock, its interpretation of locks that can be installed at the entrance to the home to unlock new functions, including opening via smartphone.
Netatmo Smart Lock connects only via Bluetooth: it is not compatible with Wi-Fi networks. “It is a decision we made for safety reasons“, said Matthieu Michel, product marketing manager at Netatmo, during the presentation.
To open the door, therefore, using the lock it is possible to use one of the keys supplied; activate the lock via the Home + Security application on your smartphone; or, since it is compatible with Apple Home, you can use an Apple TV or a HomePod device, which always connect via Bluetooth. The lock can also be locked or unlocked using an Apple Watch or from the iPhone’s lock screen widget.
In any case, after unlocking the lock, manual action will always be required to rotate the external knob: the Netatmo smart lock is not motorized.
It can be installed on all European cylinders, on doors with a maximum thickness of 10 cm. However, it is not compatible with deadbolt cylinders and Scandinavian cylinders.
Netatmo promises that, being made of high-strength stainless steel, the Smart Lock is “anti-burglary, anti-drilling, anti-tear, anti-cut and anti-hammering”.
The company guarantees an autonomy of one year. It is powered by AAA battery, but there is also a spare microUSB port to provide just enough power to change the batteries.
From the dedicated application it is possible to add further smart keys or even send a temporary permit, for example in the case of guests.
It will be available from June 13th for 379.99 euros from the Netatmo website. And over the summer it will also be available from MediaWorld and Yeppon. An additional smart key costs 39.99 euros; otherwise the package of three keys will be available for 99.99 euros. Instead, the extension kit costs 29.99 euros.
Package includes: one smart lock; three smart keys with NFC; four AAA batteries to power the lock; and two extension kits to adapt the internal and external cylinder to the door. Furthermore, the package also includes an ownership card, so you can authorize sensitive operations, including granting permanent access to a new person.
