Those who have Disney+ Standard or Premium can enjoy a shared streaming experience thanks to a new feature
Disney+ is the very popular streaming platform dedicated to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic films and programs, however few people know about a very useful function for enjoying the streaming experience to the fullest.
Announced in 2021, it is Share Play, an update that allows subscribers with iPhone, iPad or Apple TV to reunite with friends and family near and far by viewing Disney+ content fully synchronized during a FaceTime call. Below, we find out in detail how it works and what it involves.
The Disney+ feature that cancels all distances
The Disney+ SharePlay feature is available globally across the entire content catalog from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and others, including new titles. Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design, announced this experience with delighted joy.
SharePlay offers another opportunity for friends and family around the world to come together and create new memories featuring their favorite stories, featuring thousands of movies and shows, and an ever-growing content catalog of new titles and originals.
SharePlay sessions they can accommodate up to 32 people and give each participant in the FaceTime call the flexibility to choose audio and subtitles in the language they prefer. Viewers who prefer a larger screen can also enjoy synced content on their Apple TV while still sharing the moment with friends and family on FaceTime via their iPhone or iPad.
To start or join a SharePlay sessionyou will need the following:
- An active Disney+ Standard or Disney+ Premium plan
- A supported iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV device running the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or tvOS
- The latest version of the Disney+ app downloaded to your device
You can start and join a session with participants in different countries/regions, but the availability of contents may vary depending on them. Users attempting to join a session will be notified if they are unable to join due to regional restrictions.
Before that, Disney+ already had some sort of “Watch Together” feature, where multiple users who had a subscription could join a watch party, react to a scene, and play/pause the content at any time.
Co-viewing has become popular in the context of the pandemic. Several third-party extensions have been introduced, such as Netflix Party and Teleparty, which brought together the viewing experience but from a distance. The feature gave users the feeling of doing a combined activity while maintaining social distancing in the times of coronavirus.
