The countdown has started. The return of an iconic and much-loved Porsche is very close. This time we will see it very different from usual

A champion of longevity, the car in question was released for the first time in 1963, changing its skin and face several times, without however ever losing its substance. The most important change – the one that will act as a watershed – is represented by the transition from the air-cooled engine, archived in 1997, to the liquid-cooled one.

Now, however, it is preparing for a contemporary conversion, meaning that for the first time in its history it will be equipped with a hybrid drive unit. After a series of rigorous tests on busy and extra-urban roads, in various climatic conditions, for a total of 5 million km covered, the time has come for it to compete on more congenial terrain, that of the track, and it has done so with exceptional results, even better than those of traditional models. All thanks to the new engine.

Porsche raises the bar, the iconic car becomes even more powerful

There is therefore new life behind it Porsche 911. Over the years it has been the protagonist of multiple transformations but this is definitely the most delicate, as it will certainly turn up the noses of purists of the internal combustion engine applied to performance cars.

The appointment for the presentation of the new hybrid model has been set for 3pm on May 28th. At that juncture, the very first version of the iconic model equipped with a mixed powertrain will make its public appearance.

We were talking about the track test. The new Porsche 911 hybrid took place on the glorious Nurburgring track in its most ancient configuration, that of Nordschleife, the car stopped the clock on 7’16″9348 seconds less than the best recorded by the latest version of the model with a combustion engine on the same track.

A remarkable time that should comfort purists in search of speed. To be precise, for the event the 911 was fitted with standard road tires, therefore not ad hoc, and an aerodynamic kit with fixed rear wing.

After the aforementioned presentation, series production of the new hybrid Porsche 911 will begin, while there are already rumors of a further step towards electrification.
