Windows Me (Millennium Edition)
Let’s start with a version that those who have a few years under their belt might remember: Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows Me, belonging to the Windows 9x family of operating systems. Year of release? 2000, or 24 years ago.
Those who directly experienced those times tell of bugs and blue screens galore, so much so that more than someone decided to skip this version precisely because of the stability problems. At the time there were those who called him Windows Mistake Edition: there must be a reason.
Windows Vista
7 years after Windows Me, in January 2007, Microsoft launched Windows Vista, another widely remembered version of the operating system, but not for the right reasons. The first iterations of the operating system were in fact not exactly in the best of states and the high system requirements they have certainly not been little criticized.
Other factors that didn’t go down well with users included longer than expected loading times, the introduction of new DRM technologies and a general disappointment compared to the glories of Windows XP. Some might argue that Vista introduced important features and improved later thanks to Service Packs, but it’s hard not to include it in this list.
Windows 8
Windows 8 could easily be the winner in this field. Originally launched in 2012, this version is still in the “nightmares” of many users due to its redesigned tablet-centric user experience.
The Metro design language and its intricate screens, which required patience to use with a mouse and keyboard, probably represent one of the worst design choices made in Microsoft’s history. It is difficult for anyone to dispute the fact that Windows 8 is among the worst versions of Windows released.
